For independent researchers

Crosstabs for independent researchers and consultants

Run a survey project end to end without licensing a specialist package: clean the file, build banner tables, add TURF, key drivers or segments, and export an editable report. Free, no account, processed in your browser.

What this is useful for

  • Banner tables with significance letters from a survey platform export
  • Data cleaning and label mapping before analysis
  • TURF and penalty analysis for product and concept work
  • Relative-importance key drivers and NPS with margins of error
  • K-means segmentation with silhouette comparison and segment profiles
  • Sample size and margin-of-error planning for proposals

Workflow

  1. Plan and scope

Use the Sample Size calculator to set a target margin of error, design effect and finite population correction for a proposal.

  2. Analyze the export

Open the CSV, Excel, SPSS, Stata, SAS or JSON export in the workspace for tables and tests, and use the specialist tools for TURF, penalty, drivers, NPS and segments.

  3. Report

Export XLSX for appendices, PDF or PNG for quick sharing, and editable PPTX or DOCX for the client report.

One toolkit instead of several separate packages

Small projects often need a handful of analyses that would otherwise sit in different packages: tabulation, a driver model, a TURF run, a segmentation. Crosstabs puts these in one free set of browser tools that share the same import and export formats.

Each specialist tool can be tried on a built-in synthetic dataset before you open your own file, so you can check the output format first.

Keeping client files on your machine

Files are parsed and analyzed in your browser and are not uploaded to Crosstabs. Projects are stored in your browser's local storage, which is not synchronized or backed up by Crosstabs, so export important projects as .ctproj packages and keep them with your client files.

Honest limits

Crosstabs analyzes data you already have. It does not host questionnaires, recruit respondents or manage panels. There is no cloud sharing or client portal; you deliver exports.

Imports are limited to 50 MB per file, 1,000,000 respondent rows and 1,000 columns. Larger runs may still be limited by table shape, memory and the device you use; the capacity page documents the workload envelope. Weighted significance testing is restricted to supported saved survey designs.

FAQ

Can I use Crosstabs for paid client projects?

Crosstabs is free to use with no account. Check the terms page for the conditions of use.

Which file formats can I open?

CSV, TSV and TXT; Excel .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls and .xlsb and OpenDocument .ods (the worksheet with the most data is read); SPSS .sav, .zsav and .por; Stata .dta; SAS .sas7bdat and .xpt; and flat JSON or JSON Lines. The import formats help page lists the limits and the error messages you may see.

Do the specialist tools need the workspace?

No. TURF, penalty analysis, relative importance, NPS, segmentation, the Data Cleaner and the Label Mapper each run on their own page, in your browser.
