How results are checked
Named statistical review pending. Selected automated reference cases are published on the validation page.Crosstabs exports tables as CSV, XLSX, PDF and PNG or to the clipboard, reports as editable PowerPoint PPTX and Word DOCX, figures as SVG, PNG, PDF or editable PPTX, the data as an SPSS .sav file, and whole projects as .ctproj packages. All are created in the browser.
Formats at a glance
| Format | Where | What it contains | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data table CSV | Table export menu | The current table's labels, counts and percentages. Significance letters are included only when the Letters display is on. Where available, the engine version, method versions and input/result digests are appended. | Further processing in a spreadsheet or script. |
| Copy to clipboard | Table export menu | The same text as the CSV export, placed on the clipboard. | Pasting a table straight into a spreadsheet. |
| Workbook XLSX | Table export menu; batch tables | A report audit and methodology notes followed by the table. Cells stay numeric unless the Letters display is on, so sums and pivots keep working. Batch export writes one worksheet per table. | Appendix tables and client data deliverables. |
| Report PDF | Table export menu; batch tables | A formatted report of the table with its audit details. Batch export produces one PDF report pack covering every table. | Read-only sharing and archiving. |
| Editable PowerPoint PPTX | Table export menu | Slides with editable native tables and charts, findings and source notes in the speaker notes, using your report title, branding and logo settings. | Decks you will edit before delivery. |
| Editable Word DOCX | Table export menu | A document with editable tables, findings and methodology, using the same report settings. | Written reports and appendices. |
| PNG image | Table export menu (Copy as image, Download PNG) | A picture of the rendered table at 2× resolution on a white background, with a small “made with crosstabs.com” line. | Chat messages, email and quick slides. |
| Figure SVG, PNG, PDF, PPTX | Figure studio | A publication figure as vector SVG, a high-resolution PNG, a PDF embedding that image, or a PowerPoint slide where every mark and label is a native editable shape or text box. | Charts for papers, reports and decks. |
| SPSS data file (.sav) | Data › Export data | Every variable and row of the session, transformations and recodes included, with variable and value labels, measurement levels, user-missing codes, multiple-dichotomy sets and, if you choose, the session weight switched on. Byte-code compressed or uncompressed; text is UTF-8. | Continuing the analysis in SPSS, PSPP, R or Python. |
| Project package (.ctproj) | Saved projects | A checksummed JSON package of the project. A full package includes respondent rows and is not encrypted; a definition-only manifest omits rows. | Moving a project to another browser or device, or keeping a copy. |
Spreadsheet safety and encoding
- Text cells that begin with =, +, -, @, a tab or a carriage return are prefixed with an apostrophe in CSV and clipboard exports, so a spreadsheet does not run it as a formula.
- CSV files are UTF-8. When the interface language is not English, the downloaded CSV starts with a byte-order mark so Excel opens non-Latin labels correctly; clipboard text has no mark.
- Export labels and methodology notes follow the interface language. Your survey labels and written notes stay as you wrote them.
- PDFs that need characters beyond basic Latin, or a non-English interface language, load a font from crosstabs.com and check its SHA-256 checksum before use. No labels or rows are sent with that request.
Refreshing editable PPTX and DOCX
- Generated tables, charts, statistics and story blocks carry stable anchors. Refreshing a Crosstabs-generated file updates those regions and preserves supported manual edits and the package parts it does not regenerate.
- The file selected for refresh must be at most 25 MB, 128 MB uncompressed, and contain at most 4,096 package entries.
- Refresh supports Crosstabs-anchored files, not arbitrary third-party templates.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Are exports created on a server?
No. Every export on this page is generated in your browser and saved as a download or copied to your clipboard. The only network request is for the PDF font, fetched from crosstabs.com without any report content when a PDF needs characters beyond basic Latin or the interface language is not English.
Can I refresh a deck after the data changes?
Yes, for PowerPoint and Word files that Crosstabs generated. Choose Refresh existing PowerPoint PPTX or Word DOCX in the export menu and select the earlier file; the generated regions are updated and supported manual edits are kept. Arbitrary third-party templates are not refreshed.
Why does my exported cell start with an apostrophe?
Text that begins with =, +, -, @, a tab or a carriage return is prefixed with an apostrophe in CSV and clipboard exports so a spreadsheet does not run it as a formula.
Why does Copy as image download a file instead?
Copying images needs the browser's image clipboard support. Where it is unavailable or blocked, the PNG is downloaded instead.
